    Experiences & Influences:

My training as a photographer is ongoing - you never stop learning. It started some 44 years ago in the kitchen sink of our family home and continues on the PC in my study.

Formal training was as a Science Student in the early 1970's starting with glass plates and contact printing. My darkroom skills advanced under the watchful eye of Brian Barber, the Department of Metallurgy and Materials Science Photographer at the University of Cambridge. Brian remains a close friend but still doesn’t accept my love of ‘soot and white wash’. More recently Andy Lynch, the Social Documentary and Wedding Photographer, has had a big influence helping me develop a keener eye and increased confidence. Other influences come from my wife Madeline a fine art undergraduate who continues to broaden my horizons and is helping me to develop an interest in Fine Art works.

I have been influenced by many photographers the following have had a lasting and major impression:

    Bill Brandt
    Edward Weston
    Tony Ray-Jones
    Don McCullen
    Henri Cartier-Bresson
    Cindy Sherman
    Brassai
